Bearing Services Examples:
Lifetime Calculation
Acorn Industrial Service was requested to comment on the lifetime of 6206, 6308, 6211, and 6311 2RS1 sealed with WT-type grease lubrication for a Centrifugal Pump application.
- Andrew Fletcher of Acorn used the SKF Bearing Select online calculation tool to calculate the theoretical lifetime for 4 bearings and then provided discussions and conclusions for the customer.
Production Line Mapping
Acorn Industrial Services was requested by a leading food manufacturer to conduct a Process Line Mapping exercise. The customer knowingly had issues on a production line and was requesting support to help improve uptime. It was believed that bearings were contributing to 50% of site downtime. The main issues usually associated with this type of production line are the wet and washdown environments.
- Acorn concluded they would benefit the most from using a Solution-based product, such as the SKF Foodline range.
- Standardising on a premium brand of bearing on the line would help to improve bearing lifetime by increasing part reliability through material/manufacturing methods
- Utilising auto lubricators in the often-forgotten applications will ensure every bearing maintains the correct lubrication at all times
Failure Analysis
Acorn Industrial services were requested by a customer to investigate the route cause failure of a single SKF brand 22222 EK double-row spherical roller bearing. The bearing was for an unknown application and end user. Furthermore, there is no information as to what the applied load or running speed was on the bearing
- There was damage to multiple spherical rolling elements, the inner ring and the outer ring which can all be categorised as Brinelling Indentations
- Acorn suggests ensuring that the inner ring and outer ring are correctly aligned during the installation process to avoid future Brinelling Indentation damage
Lubrication System
Acorn Industrial services were requested by a large construction customer to support in analysis of a problematic lubrication system. The system was installed on a Hitachi Excavator and is used to lubricate various points along the arm. The system isn’t working as it should be with grease purge visible near the pump and bearings regularly running ‘dry’.
- The lubrication system problems are due to a thick grease being pumped over a significant distance
- Acorn suggested trialling SKF LGLS 0 grease which is much more viscous and will offer improved pumpability to help reach the required grease points
These are a few examples of the bearing services Acorn Industrial Services can offer to customers who contact us or new prospects looking for support. We're enthusiastic to approach any challenge that may come our way.
