How are RHP lock nuts and locking washers used?
Lock nuts
RHP lock nuts are used to locate a bearing on a shaft. They can also be used with other machine components, such as gears or belt pulleys.
Lock nuts can sometimes be referred to as shaft nuts or withdrawal nuts, depending on the purpose for which they are being used.
They are often used to mount bearings with a tapered bore onto tapered shaft seats and adapter sleeves, as well as to dismount bearings from withdrawal sleeves.
RHP lock nuts can have either a keyway or an integral locking mechanism.
Locking washers
RHP locking washers are used to engage a groove in the shaft, securing the lock nut into position to ensure that it isn’t loosened by vibration or friction.
