Cylindrical roller bearings

Cylindrical Roller Bearings have excellent heavy radial load capacity and can withstand high speeds. Available in NU, N, NJ and NUP designs, the Cylindrical Roller Bearing is manufactured with various cage designs including: polyamide, steel and brass cage. A full complement version is also available, which is intended for very heavy loads at moderate speeds.

Large stocks of Cylindrical Roller Bearings are offered in SKF, NSK, RHP Bearings and NKE, with other leading manufactures also available upon request. Please contact your nearest Acorn branch for further information.

Features & benefits of the cylindrical roller bearing

Separable design for simple mounting & dismounting

The separable design of the cylindrical roller bearing makes installation or removal fast and easy, minimising downtime during maintenance or repair operations.

Interchangeable design Inner Ring can be exchanged

The inner ring in a cylindrical roller bearing is an interchangeable one. Consequently, when exchanging the component of the inner ring without requirement or replacement for the whole assembly of the bearing, it saves time and increases economic efficiency along with extending the service life of machinery.

Suitable for high speed applications

Due to the presence of low friction, and precise load distribution, cylindrical roller bearings are ideal in applications requiring great speed. This means that operation can be quite smooth and efficient under very demanding conditions.

Heavy radial loads

It is possible to engineer a cylindrical roller bearing so that it can carry heavy radial loads. When it comes to strength, this sort of bearing type is ideal for industrial applications, as it should work reliably even in very intense conditions.

Accommodates axial displacement

The bearings with axial displacement allow more flexibility in system design, especially where shaft misalignment or thermal expansion may occur.

Applications of cylindrical roller bearing

Cylindrical roller bearings are widely used in industries requiring high performance, durability, and load-bearing capacity. Common applications include:

  • Road Rollers: These are applied in the construction industries to support heavy loads and, consequently, high level vibration generated in road rollers.

  • Industrial Gearboxes: The bearing is used in gearbox applications to minimize friction and wear, hence enabling operational reliability in the most unforgiving environments.

  • Electric Motors: Improved motor efficiency and longevity are facilitated by minimising energy losses due to friction.

  • Automotive Transmissions: High-precision control in high-speed, high-load automotive systems like car transmissions.

  • Pumps: The pumps important to fluid-handling systems in several industries ensure smooth rotation and durability.

  • Compressors: Minimising wear and tear on compressors will ensure that HVAC, refrigeration units, and industrial compressors work smoothly.

  • Industrial Fans: Heavy loads in large-scale ventilation systems require reliable performance from the products.

  • Windmills: These will help run wind turbines smoothly and efficiently, even under fluctuating loads and weather conditions.

  • Unbalanced Exciters: Avoid friction and ensure balance in the unbalanced exciter systems used in vibration applications.

  • Screw Compressor Applications such as Air Conditioning Systems: This includes air conditioning systems among others. Extend the life of screw compressors by handling axial displacement and reducing friction in air conditioning and cooling systems

Cylindrical roller bearings FAQs

What are cylindrical roller bearings used for?

Cylindrical roller bearings are primarily used in heavy-load applications, including automotive transmissions, gearboxes, and other industrial machinery.

How do cylindrical roller bearings work?

These bearings use cylindrical rollers to carry heavy loads and reduce friction between rotating parts, enhancing the efficiency of machinery.

Can cylindrical roller bearings handle both radial and axial loads?

While cylindrical roller bearings are designed primarily for radial loads, they can also accommodate limited axial loads depending on the bearing design.

What are the disadvantages of cylindrical roller bearings?

Basically, cylindrical roller bearings are radial load-carrying bearings; their axial load-carrying capacity is restricted to essentially unrestricted, unless specifically designed otherwise. They can be sensitive to misalignment, since such may cause them to wear off pre-maturely or result in premature failure. Also, the separable designs might need more care in assembly compared to other bearing types.
